Children of Service Families

About a third of our children come from Service Families stationed at Bramcote Barracks.  Our attendance and admissions officer, Mrs Zoe Wiggins is very experienced at helping families who are transferring to the area often at short notice. Please do not hesitate to contact us at the earliest opportunity so that we can do our very best to ensure a smooth transition for your child. As well as contacting us make sure you have submitted an application form to admissions at Warwickshire County Council.

What can we do to help you and your family?

One of the things we provide at Wolvey especially for our service children is a dedicated member of staff, a family liaison mentor who works directly with all service children across the school and is a link between the Barracks, home and school. Mrs Vanessa Reed is an ex-military wife and mother herself so she knows what its like to be moved from one place to another, abroad and in this country, having two children also moving from school to school.  Mrs Reed and another teaching assistant Mrs Sam Foulkes run an afternoon session once a week for children whose parents may be on deployment or who are new to school or those who just need some extra attention.  There is also a military mess style lunch club run once a week where service children can come together and have their lunch, bring a friend with them if they so wish and just take part in an informal social occasion. Once a term we hold coffee afternoons for service parents to join their children in some kind of craft event, providing an informal social gathering where mums and dads can share any concerns but also see what their children have been doing.

Our Nepalese children are also well supported particularly in the early years of their school life by Mrs Sumita Rai. A wonderful singer and dancer as well as teaching assistant who can always be on hand if any parents require a translation or support in communicating their needs and that of their child to school.

Documents relating to deployment as well as support for families at home will soon be uploaded on this page.
