Music

Rocksteady at Wolvey!

The value of music can't be underestimated, it builds self-esteem, promotes well-being and is proven to support learning in other academic areas.

The core of the music curriculum is taught in six week blocks each term, using units from Charanga musical school.  This is enhanced with a weekly music assembly in which children are taught to read music notation alongside singing technique.  As a church school, music forms a key part of our collective worship and a wide range of hymns and worship songs are regularly sung.

Beyond the classroom, the school offers lots of opportunities for music making.  Music lessons are available for Key Stage Two pupils. Recorder lessons are also available starting from year two - more details are available from the school office.

Rocksteady lessons are extremely popular, children learn to perform as a Rock band - the termly concerts are always a big event on the school calendar!  More information about Rocksteady is available here.

The school also has a choir and is developing an orchestra to give everyone the chance to build their musical performance skills.  The choir meet weekly to enjoy singing together and regularly sing at school and community events. This includes Young Voices! The school orchestra will be open to anyone who plays an instrument in or out of school and is a relaxed, fun way to enjoy music making as a group.
