Sports Leaders are pupil role models who support younger children in PE lessons, promote physical activity, and help organize school sports events and competitions. They are typically selected from older year groups and receive training to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
In PE lessons, Sports Leaders assist teachers by demonstrating skills, setting up equipment, and encouraging younger pupils to stay active and engaged. They help create a fun and inclusive environment where all children feel confident participating in physical activities.
Beyond lessons, Sports Leaders play a key role in running school sports competitions, lunchtime clubs, and playground activities. They organize warm-ups, officiate games, and support fair play, ensuring all pupils have the opportunity to enjoy sports. Their leadership extends to whole-school events such as Sports Day, inter-school tournaments, and fitness challenges.
Through their role, Sports Leaders develop confidence, responsibility, and teamwork while inspiring younger pupils to enjoy physical activity and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Their contributions help foster a positive sporting culture within the school, encouraging participation, resilience, and a love for sport.
