This week is science week at Wolvey. The theme this year is connections and each class will have a mission involving sending and receiving messages. When the class has succeeded in their mission, they will be given a number. These numbers will give the code to open the prizes box, meaning that all the classes must succeed in their mission to complete the code. Will they crack the code? Watch this space!

At Wolvey C of E, it is our aim to inspire children’s curiosity and wonder about the world and the universe they live in.   We believe that science is an extremely valuable subject that should be accessed by all children regardless of ability.  We also try to advocate diversity through introducing children to modern images of science and making it relevant to their lives.

Children throughout KS1 and KS2 have access to regular science lessons, either taught weekly or in a block of lessons depending upon the topic and the content. Reception classes learn scientific skills through directed play and small group work both inside and outside the classroom. In lessons, children are encouraged to ask questions and develop their critical thinking skills.  Each Key Stage follows the National Curriculum and, where possible, science learning is linked to the over-arching topic theme.

Working scientifically is a key part of our curriculum and it is embedded within our planning.  It focuses on the key features of enquiry, which includes observing over time, pattern seeking, identifying, classifying and grouping, fair testing and researching.  We also encourage children to apply their literacy and mathematical skills during science lessons.

At Wolvey C of E, we are extremely lucky, as we have an expansive forest school area on site, which provides opportunities to develop children’s excitement for the natural world around them.
