"Leaders have high expectations of all their pupils. Staff model these expectations consistently. As a result, pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. Pupils know how to behave well. They want to learn and do not waste opportunities to do so. Staff teach pupils to respect each other. Pupils play happily together." (Ofsted, June 2023)
"Pupils...respond well to the school’s Christian ethos and show respect for others. They know and live by the school’s values and rules". (Ofsted, June 2023)
History of the Church:
There was a church at Wolvey in Saxon days when the site on which the present Church of St. John the Baptist stands, was adjacent to the habitation of Ulve or Wulf, from which the parish derives its name. The site is an ideal Saxon knoll or mound, rising above the River Anker. The church is typical of the larger English parish churches, having chancel, nave, north and south aisles, west tower, south porch and north doorway. The earliest parts of the present church are: the south doorway of the twelfth century and probably the lower stages of the tower. There have been various substantial restorations through the centuries: in 1900 the Church having been closed for twelve months for very much needed restorations. In 1909 the old porch was replaced by a stone one, some of the early seventeenth timbers being reused in its roof. The flooring of the Church is of Horton stone paving (1929) and the pews are late Victorian.

Wolvey CofE Primary School, affiliated with the Coventry Diocese, is dedicated to nurturing both the academic and spiritual growth of our students. Emphasizing a strong sense of community and familial bonds, we actively engage our children in local church festivities.
Throughout the year, school governors, parents, and members of our community are warmly welcomed to join us in commemorating key Christian festivals such as Harvest, Christmas, Easter, and our Leavers’ Worship at St. John the Baptist Church. These occasions are important expressions of our Christian foundation and offer rich opportunities to reflect on the Wolvey values of kindness, respect, friendship, perseverance, and hope. They help to deepen our children’s understanding of Christian beliefs while nurturing empathy and appreciation for other faiths, cultures, and worldviews.
Our strong partnership with St. John the Baptist Church is central to our spiritual life. Reverend Johnathan Vaughan and members of the clergy regularly visit to lead Collective Worship. The whole school attends church at least once a term, and each year group leads worship for parents and carers once a year, giving pupils meaningful opportunities to develop confidence and reflect on faith and values in action.
Children also take part in faith-based enrichment, such as the 'Messy Play' led by church volunteers. Together with the church, we raise awareness of charitable causes, encouraging our pupils to live out our values and make a positive difference in their community. We always contribute to the Shoebox appeal held by Christian Aid.
Classroom Reflection and Prayer Areas
At Wolvey CofE Primary School, our classrooms are not just places of learning—they are nurturing spaces where children are supported to grow spiritually, emotionally and socially. Reflecting our vision of embracing equality and experiencing excellence, every classroom includes a Prayer Corner or Reflection Area that helps children pause, reflect, and connect with their own thoughts and faith.
These areas are regularly updated to reflect the theme of our Collective Worship and focus on one of our Christian Values, offering a deeper exploration of key messages. They typically include a Bible verse, a reflective or "big" question, artefacts, and images designed to engage children in meaningful reflection or prayer.
Children and staff are warmly encouraged to leave notes in response to the reflective questions or place personal prayers into the prayer box. These sacred spaces help to reinforce the inclusive, thoughtful and caring culture that lies at the heart of our school community.
I-Sing POP Concert - July 2024
To celebrate the end of another successful school we invited in I-Sing POP to work with us to do a LIVE concert for our community. I-Sing POP are a Christian Charity who support schools with lively and entertaining songs which feature lessons and prayers from the bible.
We had two concerts with over 200 parents/carers attending. A wonderful end to a fantastic year!
Spirituality and Remembrance at Wolvey
At Wolvey CofE Primary School, spirituality is woven into the fabric of school life and reflects our vision of embracing equality and experiencing excellence. One of the key moments in our spiritual calendar is our annual Remembrance service, held at our parish church in partnership with our local barracks.
This meaningful event brings together pupils, staff, families and members of the armed forces to reflect, remember and give thanks. Through silence, poetry, prayer and music, children develop empathy, respect and a deep sense of community.
These shared moments help our children grow as thoughtful individuals who value others, understand sacrifice, and recognise the importance of peace — living out our Christian values in a real and heartfelt way.
This year we were able to visit Wolvey Church. Reverend Vaughan lead the way and our school Prayer Warriors supported with prayers, poems and Bible readings. As always our parents were generous with their donations that were collected donated to the local foodbanks.
Food Bank and Community Outreach
Guided by our values of kindness and compassion, our pupils are actively involved in supporting the local food bank and other community initiatives. Through these acts of service, they learn the importance of loving and caring for their neighbours, just as Christ has loved us.
Gardening in Our Peace Garden
At Wolvey CofE Primary School, our Peace Garden is a cherished space where children and adults come together each year to clear, plant, and nurture a calm, reflective area at the heart of our school. With seeds generously donated by members of our community, this shared project is a wonderful example of embracing equality and experiencing excellence through teamwork, care, and creativity.
More than just a gardening activity, this work helps develop practical skills, encourages environmental responsibility, and supports positive mental well-being. It offers our children a peaceful, purposeful space to connect with nature and with one another—an embodiment of our Christian values in action.
As spring turns to summer, the Peace Garden comes to life with vibrant plants and flowers, providing a haven for insects and local wildlife. This year, our pupils also collaborated to design and paint a beautiful mural for the school community—a lasting expression of pride, unity and shared achievement.
At Wolvey, we are committed to developing courageous advocates who are equipped to stand up for justice, champion equality, and make a positive difference in the world. This commitment is rooted in our school vision:
“Embracing equality and experiencing excellence. Wolvey CofE Primary School is a diverse, caring Christian community within which the individuality and culture of each child is valued and celebrated.”
‘…Among us you are all equal…’ (Galatians 3:28, MSG)
Through our Christian values of respect, kindness, friendship, perseverance and hope, we teach pupils the importance of speaking out for what is right, showing empathy for others, and working together to bring about change.
We foster courageous advocacy in a variety of ways:
Exploring real-world issues and encouraging critical thinking, so that children can form and express their own views on matters that affect their lives and the wider world.
Studying inspirational advocates—from historical figures to contemporary activists—who demonstrate moral courage and social responsibility.
Providing opportunities for debate, public speaking and pupil-led research, where children explore issues they are passionate about and practise persuasive communication.
Empowering our Junior Leadership Team to lead projects, represent pupil voice, and take action on causes that matter within school and the wider community.
Involving pupils in community outreach and service, which helps them to develop empathy, compassion, and a sense of duty to help those in need.
Inviting guest speakers and local leaders to share their stories and inspire children to consider how they too can make a difference.
Promoting a supportive and inclusive culture, where children feel confident to express their views, respect others’ perspectives, and work collaboratively for a shared purpose.
By embedding courageous advocacy into daily school life, we aim to develop confident, compassionate pupils who live out our vision — celebrating equality, pursuing excellence, and becoming thoughtful citizens of the world.
